Proofreading
Proofreading and light editing

Proofreading is a form of light editing. As proofreaders read a document they look for surface errors. In fact, the term "proofreading" comes from the practice of reading a trial print to make corrections before the final printing.

Proofreaders use standard proofreading marks while checking the following:

      ·   Spelling, including capitalization of proper nouns
      ·   Punctuation, dates and numbers
      ·   Subject and verb agreement
      ·   Highlights confusing sentences and misplaced modifiers
      ·   Suggests changes that would improve flow and readability

Copy Editing
Copy editing

Copy Editing includes a deeper level of editing, where the copy editor changes verbs and phrases for improved clarity and accuracy. With a copy edit, the editor does not only proofread the manuscript, but guarantees the consistency and easy flow of each sentence.

Line Editing
Manuscript Line Editing

Line Editing involves a deeper level of editing, where the editor changes verbs (mostly from passive to active), reduces preprositional phrases to reduce wordiness, moves phrases around to improve clarity, and adjusts paragraph breaks to increase flow. This edit includes checking quotes and statistics for accuracy.

Throughout the line edit we do all we can to maintain the author's voice while improving the saleability and professional feel of the manuscript.
